Optimization of industrial phosphoric acid production

In this particular case study, we focused on developing an efficient strategy for designing large-scale phosphoric acid production processes. Our goal was to create a systematic and effective approach by utilizing process modeling and optimization techniques. To achieve this, we employed a comprehensive and structured framework that aimed to simplify the modeling and identification of highly efficient phosphoric acid production schemes. This framework allowed us to explore the interactions and synergies among the various processing components involved. One notable advantage of our approach is that the models we used were not tied to specific processes. Instead, we developed generic process modules that provided flexibility and enabled the design to be adaptable and interconnected with different flowsheets. By implementing our modeling and optimization approach in an actual industrial phosphoric acid production process in China, we were able to propose design options that significantly improved performance. Furthermore, our work yielded valuable insights into how the different process components interacted with each other, which proved beneficial for the design process.
